Sounes is an exceptionally talented storyteller.

His skills are amplified by the subject matter, not overshadowed by it. He takes an honest look at Dylan’s life and is unafraid of confronting the ugliness. He allows readers to form their own judgments and interjects with opinions only occasionally to present us with different perspectives.

The length wasn’t an issue because every phase of Dylan’s life, though full of stories on their own, is not just chronicled but carefully laid out. Sounes is accessible to all levels of Dylan fans. Any major event that a Dylan enthusiast would recognize is teased by Sounes, which is a lot of fun! For the exploratory reader less familiar with Dylan, Sounes makes sure not to rely on empty name-dropping.

Honestly, I used reading this book to get to know some basic Dylan facts, and it was a tremendous read! Highly recommend.
